Site Update from the West Midlands: We're excited to share progress on two elegant homes we've designed, blending traditional charm with a modern twist. Featuring timeless hipped roofs and striking gables, the design is enhanced by contemporary elements like clerestory glazing, which will flood the interiors with natural light. The shells are nearly complete, with first fix underway. Windows and doors are set to be installed early in the new year, and we’re on track for completion just in time for summer. Our modest yet transformative extension and refurbishment of an existing barn has recently obtained planning permission in Mottram. The site is situated in green belt along a secluded private drive and boasts 360 countryside views. The extension is subservient to the existing barn and is intentionally a stark contrast to the local rural vernacular. The synergy between old and new is apparent yet effortless with the new kitchen, diner and living room secretly hidden to a lower garden level, look out on to the landscaped gardens and beyond. Housed within the existing barn hosts a series of bedroom suites, media room and a wine cellar tasting/dining experience with separate access.

We’ve received planning permission for a replacement 6000 Sq.ft dwelling. The proposed design seeks to provide a family home that intends to complement the existing local vernacular, embeds into the rural surrounding whilst respecting and enhancing the well established ecological & arboricultural context.

The major project, located on The Downs in the town centre, comprises three distinctive buildings named The Blok, The Place and The Works.

Our brief was simple yet effective by creating a series of enhanced spaces that allow for a better sense of arrival, framing views towards open countryside. A wellness suite and two guest suites. The existing dwelling is connected to a subservient proposed rear/side extension by a colonnade which encloses a new dining area. Looking forward to using Ash and Lacy’s Mechslip and load bearing frame.

The planning application for a 6,500sq.ft replacement dwelling submitted on Friday. Prepared by Eden Planning, centres around improving upon the fallback position, of various extensions and outbuildings to the existing dwelling that can be erected under PD rights. The property boasts 5 bedrooms and generous open-plan living spaces (all affording views of the stunning surrounding landscape) as well as leisure/wellness areas and a triple garage. The appearance of the property echoes the rural red brick and stone properties that punctuate the open landscape, flanked by a dark timber-clad contemporary interpretation of an agricultural barn.

A trio of directors has acquired the Altrincham-based architecture practice from founder Harry Calder. Mark Massey, Ewen Miller, and Andy Lightfoot have taken control of Calderpeel Architects, whose projects include Salboy’s ongoing residential redevelopment of the former Castle Irwell student village in Salford. Speaking on behalf of his co-owners, Ewen Miller, managing partner at Calderpeel Architects, said: “Harry established the business over thirty years ago and has worked hard with ourselves over the last twenty to develop the business to where it is today. “We are a very tight-knit and connected team committed to continuing this development, supporting our fantastic past and existing clients whilst simultaneously building on our strong legacy.” Miller added that while the business is under new ownership, Calder would continue to play a key role. “Undoubtedly there will be a continued change in practice culture that we have been driving for the last few years, which looks to move the practice forward by nurturing our staff, enabling the next generation of designers, and working closely with like-minded professionals to create opportunities. Luma Marketing founder Lucy Lomas has joined the company as a non-executive director to assist Calderpeel in “evolving our strategic vision for the future”, Miller added.
