As a unique opportunity to create a striking new house on one of the most desirable roads in Hale, Calderpeel, working with Hillcrest Homes, explored several solutions to deliver a high quality architectural solution, maximising the secluded garden spaces and presenting an attractive elevation to the road.
The decision was taken to locate the house to the northern side of the site creating a light and spacious south facing private garden, overlooked by the principal rooms of the house. To the north, we created a secure landscaped entrance courtyard, with views through the house affording the visitor tantalising glimpses into the pool area and garden beyond.
The house sits amongst the mature trees with shallow pitched roofs with deep overhanging eaves, while mellow brick and stone elevations are complemented by use of green oak framing to the large spaces. This traditional construction allows the large spans needed to create the open plan living areas and includes the large areas of glazing to give the house a light open feel.
This approach results in an elegant house of traditional materials and proportions which contains a series of flowing open plan contemporary spaces suited to modern living.
