We worked closely with Nikal on the design and delivery of the Hive building which is providing an additional 167 homes as part of the wider redevelopment of the Masshouse Circus site.
The Hive is the first residential development in Birmingham to have partnered with Birmingham District Energy Company (BDEC), a unique relationship enabling all properties at Hive to be powered via the city’s energy saving district heating system, providing hot water and central heating to all apartments.
Meeting Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the benefits include state-of-the-art computer controlled heating systems to all apartments, an expected reduction in hot water and heating bills, and a 92% reduction in CO2 emissions - saving 2.65 tonnes of carbon per year, per apartment.
TPM Landscape were commissioned to design a ‘secret garden’ for use by the residents of the apartments to create an urban oasis which maximised the unique characteristics of the location. The secret garden is located above a podium car park deck which resulted in a garden where residents can either gather socially or find a secluded spot away from the vibrant city.
Washway Road
Following detailed appraisals of the site to identify and unlock its true economical potential, the relocation of the dental practice facilitated the procurement for the new large retail units facing the main road with eleven apartments above. Designed to appear fresh, modern and inviting the building has become a landmark in the area and has re-invigorated many local business.
