With full planning permission now secured, Calderpeel are thrilled to be seeing further progress made on this exciting residential development in the near future.
Manchester relocation for architecture practice
A Manchester-based architecture practice has moved to larger city centre premises and expanded its workforce. Calderpeel Architects, whose designs include a newly submitted residential scheme on the former Itron gas meter factory site near Old Trafford, has moved to the XYZ Building in Spinningfields.
The Altrincham-headquartered company, which opened at That Space on Princess Street in Manchester about a year ago, has also brought Meg Tullis and Rebecca Mwanja on board to help roll out its plans for further growth. Headed up by director Mark Massey, the pipeline of work at Calderpeel's Manchester office will focus on projects in the residential and commercial sectors. "Manchester's residential sector is booming, with demand for full scale family homes in the city centre particularly high, so we're looking to grow by tapping into these markets further," said Massey. "As a practice, we're committed to designing world class spaces, so we're right at home in the XYZ Building. It'll help facilitate our plans for expansion within the city."
Calderpeel appoints five ahead of growth
A Cheshire-based architecture practice has expanded its team following a series of new appointments.
Calderpeel Architects, which is based on Church Street in Altrincham, has added five to the practice to facilitate growth as it looks to build for the future.
Dylan Harkin and Kieran Marsh join as technicians, Kate Johnstone and Jenny Cox have been taken on as part 1 architectural assistants, while Hussain AL-Alwan joins as a graphic designer, taking the firm’s Altrincham team to 18.
Ewen Miller, managing director at Calderpeel Architects, said: “Calderpeel has built a strong reputation in its core sectors – including superhomes, residential, leisure and blue-chip commercial – but we have a clear growth plan in place to expand the work we do in these areas further.
“The move significantly strengthens our team and allows us to ramp up ahead of this growth.
“Dylan, Kieran and Huss bring with them a wealth of experience, while our latest intake of architectural trainees - Kate and Jenny - have an abundance of enthusiasm for the sector.”
Dylan joins Calderpeel as a technician after gaining experience at Manchester’s Lewis and Hickey Architects, while Kieran has also been taken on as a technician from Gladman Retirement Living. As technicians, Dylan and Kieran will create building solutions for construction projects, as well as designing visuals for proposed schemes.
As architectural assistants, Kate and Jenny will spend 12 months gaining practical industry experience, known as ‘part 1’, working alongside Calderpeel’s architects on a wide range of projects.
It’s their first year in industry after both completing an undergraduate architecture degree. Their path to qualifying as architects means following their ‘part 1’, they’ll need to complete a postgraduate architecture qualification, followed by another year in industry before they can sit part 3, which involves the final written and oral examinations.
Meanwhile, graphic designer Hussain joins Calderpeel with a degree in graphic design from Manchester Metropolitan University and will build the firm’s visual brand, work alongside the firm’s PR partner on marketing matters and lead team building initiatives.
