A new four appliance bay community firefighting facility to replace the outdated and inadequate fire station on the site. The existing fire station housed a small heritage collection which has been replicated in the new station and expanded upon. This became the focus for the entrance of the building. The new building was designed for the requirements of a modern fire service.
A major remit of the development of this fire station was to engage with the local community. This was done by providing facilities for community use, which engenders the sense that the building is embedded within its locale and ensures it is an open and welcome resource for the community.
The proposed community facilities included a flexible room, access to the fitness suite, community meeting rooms with kitchen facilities, and inclusive access provision as well as provision of multi faith facilities. These facilities enabled the Authority to deliver a comprehensive programme of community engagement to establish real connection with a wide variety of groups.
