Two superhomes gain approval in Prestbury

The overall appearances are elegant two storey dwellings articulated by oak frames and bays. The well proportioned windows that puncture the facade connect the inside and outside spaces, and the front entrance doors are emphasised by simple canopies. The building’s steep roof pitches, full height glazed openings and slender chimneys create an elegant blend of traditional local vernacular and contemporary detailing.

The pallet of materials employed is similar to that of the surrounding properties and maintains the vernacular of dark grey slate for the roof and white rendered walls. Oak frames dominate a gable on each dwelling facing onto the garden. Glass dominates the elevations with fine detailed frames and mullions, with the lightweight detailing complimenting the heavy masonry walls and low eaves breaking up the mass of the building. Timber window frames and doors are proposed while selective stone detailing is used for the window heads, and to cap the bays and chimneys. Contemporary elements have been selectively utilised with glazed balustrades, large timber framed doors and window screens amongst more traditional looking windows.

Overall the proposals have strong architectural merit that will compliment and enhance the character of the road and immediate neighbours. Careful consideration of the site’s constraints and contextual surroundings has been taken into account to ensure that the proposed development responds to the challenges offered. The design is a direct response to a stunning site and open brief from the client, resulting in a blend of traditional architectural language and the best of contemporary living spaces.

Architecturally led, the scheme creates intelligent and romantic homes, whilst maintaining a contemporary response to the site.
